Surprise! A Birthday Afternoon Tea: Part 2

And now for the details...

The nibbles...

Mmmmmmm baklava!

Champagne with Hibiscus flowers. Loving the vintage coup glass!

Here we are, a motley crew...

A chocolate and pistachio cake, completely butter free made with courgettes!

Surprise! A Birthday Afternoon Tea: Part 1

At the beginning of the month we celebrated mum's 50th birthday (and she won't mind me saying because she's gorgeous!)
It took several months of planning...and if I'm honest I started it almost as soon as we'd got back from honeymoon to fill that void post wedding blues brings! She's as sharp as a tack is mum, so it took some scheming with family, friends and colleagues to get this one past her. We did it though and to prove it I'm sharing the pictures with you taken by my very talented baby brother.

Here's her reaction when she was steered into the garden by my sister with her eyes covered...

One Year On...

Yesterday was our very first wedding anniversary. A day of mixed emotions for me I have to say, I felt incredibly happy and rather weepy all day! In the morning a beautiful parcel arrived from my step-sister, a handmade album full of our wedding keepsakes such as the Bride and Groom place cards I'd made that I thought had been thrown away and messages and photos from my bridal shower. Such a wonderful surprise.

I'm spending the rest of the day remembering our exciting honeymoon journey and wishing we could do it all again!
Thank you to my wonderful husband for allowing me to do what I love and for being my best friend. Can't wait to see what next year brings!

My Fondant Fancy: The Wedding!

And so, here it is. The finished article-a two tier, chocolate torte sponge with chocolate, Cointreau and orange zest buttercream. My first attempt at creating a wedding cake. What do you think?

Here's the reason I did it in the first place-Mr and Mrs Harrison! It was a fabulous day (once we got past the panic with the bride stuck in traffic half way across London 30 minutes before the ceremony!) with gorgeous food...and cake of course, although I thought I'd spare everyone the shots of you two shoving the sponge in each other's faces!

Thanks to Juliet and Nancy at Fancy Nancy for the fabulous sponge recipe (it'll be my little secret too now!) to Rob for being a trooper licking out the bowls and eating left over icing and congratulations to our happy couple!!!!
